Economic Development

“I know how much people put into their businesses. I’ve seen it and I’ve been a part of it. I want to make it easier for the people of Harris County to create jobs and build their businesses. A strong economy is the cornerstone for everything else we can achieve in this region. I have been and, will continue to be, very aggressive when it comes to bringing jobs to Harris County.”

– Gordon Quan

Gordon grew up in Houston’s East End the son of small business owners.  His parents ran a grocery store.  They were a “mom and pop” operation where the whole family pitched in and actually lived behind the store.  That grocery store was so much more to the Quan family than a paycheck.  It was something into which they’d put their hearts and souls.  And for the surrounding community, it was a source of economic activity and jobs.  This experience taught Gordon Quan how important small and medium-sized businesses are in creating jobs and economic stability for our communities.  Gordon knows that the economy of any given area affects everything from the student drop-out rate to the crime rate.

That’s why Gordon has spent 30 years assisting businesses and entrepreneurs in making Harris County home. Currently, he is working on Regional Investment Centers to attract foreign investment to this County – New York and Chicago have already done this and Gordon believes we need to follow suit.  And Gordon Quan will work to expand the use of these regional centers to attract foreign investors.

Gordon also wants to create a business incubator that provides technical assistance and links entrepreneurs to the dozens of ethnic chambers of commerce in the county as well as the Greater Houston Partnership.   This can be achieved.  Harris County just needs a county judge with the drive and determination to get it done.  Because, when it comes to job security and economic growth, there is no substitute for results.
